If you haven't heard.....

Apparently there is a boycott against the Dunkin' Donuts
franchise for an ad that featured celebrity chef Rachel Ray
donning a scarf that was deamed anti-Arab and anti-Muslim.

The protest started from a comment made by Fox News reporter,
Michelle Malkin where she called the scarf pictured in the ad a kaffiyeh,
which is a article of clothing that is traditonally worn by Palestinian men.

Due to the allegation the corporation immediately pulled the ad and apologized for any wrong doing.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has confirmed that relief trailers that were offered to the victims of Hurricane Katrina are indeed contaminated by the powerful inhalant Famaldehyde. Complaints of wheezing and coughing surfaced in March 2006 after federal officials proclaimed the homes safe.

"Every day we learn more and more about the Bush administration's catastrophic failure to respond to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina," Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said.

"Instead of deploying the resources required to save lives and rebuild communities, the administration consistently cut corners and buried the truth."

The Federal Emergency Management Agency bought 145,000 trailers
for the use of displaced Katrina victims following the disaster that devasted the Gulf Coast back in August 2005 killing 1, 500 people.

The comments made by outspoken priest Fr. Micheal Pfleger
again has Presidental candidate Barack Obama covering his back.

The remarks were made in a sermon last Sunday where Pfleger,
an Obama supporter, mocked the reaction that Sen. Hillary Clinton
after winning the New Hampshire primary.

" She wasn't the only one crying. There were a whole lot of white
people crying," Pfelger told the congregation.

Pfleger after seeing the video on Youtube later apologized.

"These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama's life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them."

The comment lead to Obama immediately going on the defensive.

"I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric," Obama wrote.

This is not the first time that Pfleger, who has been the pastor at St. Sabina for more than 25 years, outspokeness has got him in trouble. Several years ago Cardinal Francis George spoke oftransferring the pastor to another parish but didn't after outcry from the south side community.

Who & Why.......

Over the weekend I had an opportunity to go
and see "The Ballad of Emmett Till," which is
showing at the Goodman Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn.
The play centers around the August 28, 1955 murder of
the 14-year-old Chicago boy in Money, Mississippi, whose
body was found by fishermen three days after his death in the
Tallahatchie River. Till's killing at the hands of Roy Bryant and J. R.
Milam, is noted as a major factor for the beginnig of the Civil Rights
Movement.

Events that resulted in his death have been agured over. Some say
that he whistled at Bryant's wife, Carolyn only because of a stutter
that he suffered from due to contracting Polio as a child, but Carolyn
later stated that he uttered the words "Hey Baby," as he walked out
of the store. These events later lead to Till being beaten, shot in the
back and having a cotton gin fan tied around his neck with barb wire.
Bryant and Milam later confessed to the brutal killing but was eventually acquitted of all charges surrrounding the case. Till remains are buried at Burr Ridge Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.

"The Ballad of Emmett Till," lasts until June 1st at the Goodman Theatre. Visit goodmantheatre.org for ticket and showtimes.

If you haven't heard....

The Bush adminstration is cracking down on all
illegal immigrants. Over 270 immigrants were
detained and sentenced to five months in prison
in Waterloo, Iowa for apparently working in a meat
packing plant with false documentation. In the past
most illegal workers would have been detained and
quickly deported.

According to reports 2008 will be very bleak for teens looking
for employment. Sluggish retail sales along with higher fuel costs
and a weak economy are contributing factors to the job recession.
Last summer's teen employment rate was 34.8 the lowest since
World War II.

If you are an ex-con, finding a job may become easier. Thanks to new program
started by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, a $10,000 tax credit will be handed down to companies that hire or give vocational training to former inmates. The policy is to combat growing crime rates along with the overcrowding in prisons.

"This is one of the best crime-prevention programs we'll ever have," according to Nutter.

Philly spends $30,000 a year to house more than 9,000 inmates, while 700,000 people are released from both state and federal institutions a year. Studies also show that nearly two
out of every three inmates released from state or federal prison are expected to be rearrested within three years.

"This city government has a responsibility to extend our hand and make sure that we're giving people that second chance," said Nutter.

Who & Why....

I had the opportunity a while back to interview a rising star out
of Texas. His name is Yung Chill and he is a very talented person.
He writes, produces and creates his own music for himself and others
which include Snoop Dogg, UGK and Big Hawk. He is on his grind, so for that I'm showing him love. Also thanks to Michelle Ngome of Nu Phenomenon Ent. Below is the interview along with a link to Chill's video.

When you were in your early 20's do you remember what you were doing? Were you in the studio with artists like UGK, Big Hawk and Snoop Dogg? Were you being featured in numerous publications worldwide? Like most young adults you probably were passing your time by going to school, work or by starting a family. The same can not be said about Houston's own Yung Chill. The producer/artist has been on his grind. Once an insecure chubby kid, he has now grown into a full grown musician. With the ability to produce, play the piano and spit a few bars, Chill's talents will certainly launch him into the mainstream. Now with "Stop Talkin'and Listen" he plans on hitting the world with a quality record. Chill took a few minutes to tell me about the album and how he's not Hollywood like a lot of other rappers.

Where did the name Chill come from?

Yung Chill: It's kind of an embarrassing story. In Houston, it's this certain kind of haircut where if it's not blended all the way around it's called a chili bowl. So it went from Chili Bowl to Chili. Of course I got older and found out how embarrassing my haircut was, so from there I just kind of ran with it.

You don't wear your hair like that anymore do you?

YC: (laughs) I might bring it back, I'll make it look hot.

What initially drew you to music?

YC: I really don't know. Of course I watched t.v. and wanted to be this famous rapper like everybody else when I was a kid. Outside of that every since elementary school I have been rapping, I just thought it was cool. As time forbid I became a producer, it's been that ever since.

Did you like school?

YC: I don't know anybody who was excited about going through school. To be honest with you,I did like school.Iwas one of those fat nasty kids that nobody talked to.Everybody used to beat me and I could never run fast so I was a loser. Then I grew up. In high school I was a little more popular. Then I went to college and got an Associate's Degree in Recording Arts anda Bacholer's Degree in Entertainment Business. I enjoyed my college career because it was something that I really wanted to do. It's something that I still use today. I guess that you can say that school was cool, (laughs). That's for the kids.

By the time you went off to college your career was already blown right?

YC: Pretty much. I'm not going to lie,it wasn't blown up,I'm not blown now. On my way to college in Florida I actually sacrificed a lot. I was making a lot of moves and I went to college, I was scared I was going to lose a lot of my clientele. I was a producer so I was making a lotof good stuff. I had just got onTre's album I was working with Chamillionaire and UGK. I just threw it all in the air and was like man I really want to go to school. I was 18 at the time and I was like if I don't go to school now I'm never going.

Why go to college if you already had a career?

YC: I just wanted a piece of paper behind what I did. It wasn't like I was going to a university for something that I wasn't using. I received my Associate's Degree in Recording Arts, which taught me how to mix and master with my Bachelor's that taught me all the contractural side, all the marketing schemes that can help me futher my career. I think that if I didn't go to school a lot of things would be different. So I'm glad that I was able to go and get the knowledge that I got. Anybody that's ready to go to school, go to to school, go to school for something that you want to do, don't just go just to go and to say its cool. I'm not saying not to go to school but I'm saying when you do go to school go for something that you like and that you love. I went to school for what I wanted to go to school for. I felt like having the paperwork for what I wanted to do in real life. Just in case I break my arm and can't doa beat, I can go work somewhere.

You have worked with trhe likes of UGK and Chamillionaire among otgers,
wht advice have you learned from these artists?

YC: Big Hawk I think gave me the most advice, (r.i.p Big Hawk.) I think that Big Hawk was one of the first people that actually made me feel like I was tight .A lot of other artists will listen to your music and they are really thinking in their head,"man that shit was hot," but they won't say anything. Hawk was like one of those figures to me. I think Screw music was one of the things when I was a kid that really had me locked in on music. Dj Screw, the whole movement, I had every Screw tape.I listened to people like Big Hawk,Phat Kat,Lil Flip and Zero. When I met with Hawk he was like,"man ChillI'm going to be real with you man, I listened to your album and you hot bro, you're going to make it."When he told me that I was like I might actually make it for real. I learned a lot of stuff from being in the studio with UGK,(r.i.p. Pimp C.) You learn something from everybody anytime you go in the studio. I think people learn from me and a lot of those artists helped me work on my career.

What are your thoughts on Pimp C's passing?

YC: Pimp C was one of the most influential people in southern hiphop. I had a closer tie to him than a lot of other people did. The other side of my family is from Port Arthur. I was exposed to them at an early age.UGK and Screw music was the only thing I knew untilI was 13.When he passed away it really hit home. A week prior to passing I was in Houston with Pimp C and his wife, the whole UGK family, Dj Vito, 17 and Toe Major. We're all from Port Arthur and it's not that big so we try to stick together. All my condolenses go out to his wife, his immediate Butler family and Bun B of course. It really hit home but things happen and when it's your time it's your time. You just have to let God's will be done and keep it moving. We got to let Port Arthur live through us now.

Now on to a different gear, can you talk to me about the album?

YC: This album shows a lot more maturity than my last project. You never have to press stop, it's a straight headbanger. We have learned the game and you either going to make a real lolipop record or you're going to make a real overlooked lyrical over analyzed type of record where the general public can't understand. I tried to reach a happy medium.

If you haven't heard.....

It looks like Chicago native and R&B King Robert Kelly is
finally ready for trial. The final jurors were selected Thurs-
day and they include four African Americans along with eight
Caucasians. The four Black jurors consists of a 40 year old chef,
a 50 year old chrisitian who has a family connection with the late
singer and R. Kelly associate Aaliyah, a 20 year old teacher's aide
and a middle aged Olympia Fields resident.

A 40 year old male, a 20 year old criminal-justice student, a 30 year
old complice officer, a recent college grad, a business executive, a female athletic trainer and a 68 year old Romanian-American round out the eight White jurors. I guess we are one step closer to seeing if Kells will go down for alleged child porn.

Senator Barack Obama is once again getting slammed by Senator John McCain
for according to him downplaying the threat from Iran.

"Senator Obama claimed that the threat Iran poses to our security is 'tiny' compared to the threat once posed by the former Soviet Union," McCain said during a speech in Chicago. "Obviously, Iran isn't a superpower and doesn't possess the military power the Soviet Union had, but that does not mean that the threat posed by Iran is insignificant.

This comes from a statement made by Obama on Sunday night while in Oregon while defending his view that he would step up diplomatic engagements with Iran potentiallyup to the presidential level, if he became president.

"Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union," Obama said."They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us, and yet we were willing to talk to the Soviet Union at the time when they were saying we're going to wipe you off the planet."We should use that position of strength that we have to be bold enough to go ahead and listen. We might not compromise on any issue, but at least we should find out are there areas of potential common interest, and we can reduce some of the tensions that have caused us so many problems around the world," Obama said.

Dallas Cowboy's Cornerback Pacman Jones is asking NFL Commissioner Roger
Goodell for approval. Jones who was suspended by Goodell for the entire 2007
season after repeatedly violating the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy as a result
of him being arrested six times. The Cowboy's organized team activities are scheduled for Tuesday and Jones hopes to participate.

"Hopefully I can get around my new teammates and start doing OTAs and working out with them," Jones told the newspaper. "I still have to go through the process, and I'm just waiting. I'm ready to get in there and learn the defense."And I've been out of the game for a year, so I need to shake off all the rust to get ready to play."
